Validate A Domain

Validating a domain is very straightforward. To validate a domain you will need access to the domain's DNS records. If you do not have access to the domain's DNS records, please contact the domain owner or administrator.

On successfully adding a new domain you will have been sent an email with the necessary validation information. If you do not have this email you may also view the validation information by pressing the fingerprint icon above the metrics graph on the top-right of the domain information page in the application.

To verify ownership of your domain, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to your domain's DNS record settings
  • Create a new TXT record with the following information:
    • The record name will be in the format of _divertly.<your domain name>  , so if your domain is links.consoto.org  , the record name will be _divertly.links.consoto.org
    • The record value will be the value designated in the instructions. It's format will look something like this: divertly;v1;<random characters and numbers>
    • Set the TTL to whatever value you desire. If you're unsure, use 1 hour.
  • Create a new CNAME (or Alias) record with the following information:
    • The record name will be your domain name or subdomain. Example: links   or links.consoto.org  depending on your DNS provider.
    • The record value should be proxy.divert.ly
    • Set the TTL to whatever value you desire. If you're unsure, use 1 hour.
  • Save the new records.

Every DNS provider is different, your actual steps may be slightly different than these. If you have any issues creating the validation records with your provider, please contact us and we'll be happy to help!

It may take 24-48 hours for the DNS records to propagate across the internet.

Domains will automatically be validated within 24 hours of the records being available. You may also click the Verify button on the validation information modal in the application if its has been longer than 24 hours and the domain is not verified.

⚠️ Important: Domain verification is regularly re-checked, do not remove the verification records unless you wish to remove the domain from your Divertly organization.
